I'm on the 2.8Ghz 17" Macbook Pro, and Windows runs fast enough to pretty much feel native. It doesn't expose as many technical settings as other VMWare products in its GUI, but if you've used VMWare before, you can easily import virtual machines from other boxes, or you can just edit the VMX files directly to turn on features you need. * by this I mean if you have 8.1234 in a cell formatted as #.#, it will display as 8.12, and thus paste across the great OS divide as 8.12.įusion is really good software, very Mac-like, and it's very smooth and pain-free to use. I ditched Parallels 3 for Fusion 2, and I've been quite happy with that change. I'm going to add a 4 GB DIMM as soon as prices come out of the stratosphere. 4 GB for the mini.Ĥ GB is enough for today-I allocate 1 GB to an XP VM in Fusion on my 4 GB MBP-but RAM requirements only increase with time. You will want the machine with the most RAM capacity, which (today) means the MBP. Instead of getting a Mini or a 15" MBP, why not get a Mini *and* a 13.3" MBP which is probably the best laptop ever made. This means you can do the quick and dirty use the VM for a couple minutes, or you can boot the system into the bootcamp partition and get native performance if you're going to be spending an extended amount of time there. It's been a long time since I've run Parallels, but with Fusion you can boot your Bootcamp partition as a VM. Does file transfer and copy/paste work? I don't mean to open this can of worms, but are there any major differences between Parallels and Fusion? I just want something that loads programs like Office and Endnote fairly quickly and is stable.

My question: What are your experiences with virtualization with either the 15" Macbook Pro or the Mac Mini? I'm not look for gaming through virtualization so that's not important. Mini is cheaper but I like the mobility of the Macbook. I'm also not sure whether I want to get a 15" Macbook Pro (2.53 GHz version) or a Mac Mini.

So, I'm looking at utilizing some virtualization software like Parallels or Fusion. I know that I can run Boot Camp easy enough, however, I don't want to have to reboot the computer every time I run one of these programs for a few minutes. Unfortunately, I still have to rely pretty heavily on Windows programs like OneNote, EndNote, ChemOffice, etc.
